Newport Oregon Cloyster Festival -
Baskets And Pearls Up For auction At Oyster Cloyster Festival
Almost every year since the beginning, the Oyster Cloyster Festival has
sold raffle tickets for baskets to event attendees.
In an effort to involve more
people who wish to support Oregon Coast Community College and the Aquarium
Science program, the festival committee decided this year to sell tickets for
the baskets before the event.
Susan Ernst, raffle committee chair said,
"We have some absolutely fantastic items in our baskets this year. Our theme is
a romantic get-away. So each basket has an overnight stay and at least one meal
gift certificate, a fine bottle of wine and chocolate. Plus, each basket has a
stunning pearl necklace. We're very pleased with the generosity of the community
and especially of Dust Devil Mining Company."
The Dust Devil Mining
Co. necklaces range in price from $975 to $200. "We would be remiss if we did
not include a complete description of the 20 exquisite necklaces," said A.T.
Ronan, OCCC Foundation executive director and development director for the
college, "Each necklace was hand strung and designed by Patsy Buford, OCCC
Foundation Board past president and one of the owners of Dust Devil Mining
Company."
The descriptions of each of the necklaces in the 20 baskets
are: Basket #1: an 18-inch light pink baroque fresh water pearl necklace valued
at $200; Basket #2: a white potato fresh water pearl necklace valued at $220;
Basket #3: an 18-inch pastel colored mother of pearl beads valued at $645;
Basket #4: an 18-inch multi colored finger fresh water pearl necklace valued at
$300; Basket #5: an 18-inch pink tear drop fresh water pearl necklace valued at
$350;
Basket #6: an 18-inch multi strand fresh water pearl and Oregon
Sunstone beads necklace valued at $600; Basket #7: a 54-inch multi colored
potato fresh water pearl necklace with shortener valued at $800; Basket #8: a
36-inch white mother of pearl beads necklace valued at $570; Basket #9: a
72-inch fresh water pearl and Oregon Sunstone rope necklace valued at $700; and
Basket #10: a 72" fresh water pearl and Oregon Sunstone rope necklace valued at
$700;
Basket #11: a 72-inch white fresh water pearl strand necklace
valued at $850; Basket #12: an 18-inch multi strand fresh water pearl and Oregon
Sunstone necklace valued at $975; Basket #13: an 18-inch mother of pearl and
black bead with Bruce St. John Maher Fused Glass bead necklace valued at $396;
Basket #14: an 18-inch mother of pearl necklace valued at $250; Basket #15: an
18-inch fresh water pearl, Oregon Sunstone and Bruce St. John Maher fused glass
bead necklace valued at $325;
Basket #16: a 72-inch fresh water pearl
necklace with shortener valued at $440; Basket #17: a 20-inch multi strand fresh
water pearls and Oregon Sunstone bead necklace valued at $550; Basket #18: a
72-inch Oregon Sunstone and fresh water pearl rope necklace valued at $875-inch
Basket #19: a 72-inch fresh water pearl long strand necklace with shortener
valued at $440; and Basket #20: a 72-inch fresh water pearl long strand necklace
valued at $400.
The 20 baskets will be raffled at the Oyster Cloyster
event on Nov. 4 at the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Baskets range from a maximum value
of $1,440 to $600 with a total value of more than $18,000 for all 20 baskets.
Tickets are $25 each or five for $100. Raffle ticket buyers do not have to be
present at the event to win. Raffle tickets as well as tickets to the event can
be purchased at the Bank of the West branches in Lincoln City, Newport, Toledo,
Siletz or Yachats or at the OCCC campus in Lincoln City or Newport. Tickets can
also be purchased by credit card by calling 574-7131 or through the Internet at
www.occc.cc.or.us/oystercloyster.
The basket donated from Chinook Winds
includes two nights lodging at Chinook Winds Hotel, two show tickets, dinner in
the Rogue River Room, plus many other gifts including an 18-inch light pink
baroque fresh water pearl necklace valued at $200 (donated by Dust Devil Mining
Co), and a Pyromania glass float. The total maximum value of the basket is
$1,200.
Other lodging donations include the Stone Crest Cellar B & B,
Newport Belle, the Anchor Pier, The House of Rogue Bed and Beer, the Mills
Casino in Coos Bay, 5th Avenue Suites in Portland, Elizabeth Street Inn, two
nights lodging at the Inn at Spanish Head, the Best Western at Agate Beach and
the La Quinta Inn.
Each basket also contains a $50 Marine Discovery
Tours/Anchor Pier Lodging gift certificate good for either a cruise or a room
discount, a $40 Quimby's Restaurant gift certificate and a bottle of fine wine
(except for the Chinook Winds Casino basket), chocolate from Depoe Bay Candy, an
art object from the Edge Gallery or another business. In addition to Quimby's
and the Rogue River Room at Chinook Winds Casino and Resort, other restaurant
gift certificates include the Drift Inn, Georgie's, April's, Shilo, Whales Tale,
Embarcadero and the Mill Casino.
Proceeds from the Oyster Cloyster raffle
benefit the Lois Rahkonen OCCC Aquarium Science Internship Fund, an Oregon Coast
Community College Foundation Restricted Fund. The OCCC Foundation is a 501(c)3
organization. The mission of the Foundation is to advance educational
opportunities by raising funds and increasing the public awareness about OCCC
and its many benefits.
