Most of us tend to associate bullying with childhood and school. There are hundreds of adults that are being bullied in the streets and in the workplace.
We often picture a bully as a mean looking kid who continuously teases the children in the playground and makes them cry. Unfortunately, bullying is not limited to children and schools. According to bullying facts and figures in the United States.
Name-calling and aggressive behaviors are just as common among adults as they are among children. In fact, according to the bullying facts and figures complied by different organizations studying the bullying phenomenon, the name calling and the aggressive behavior are a lot more pronounced among adults than among children. Adults shouting and swearing at each other on the streets and in other public places are definitely more common than children doing such things. What is really more alarming about the bullying facts among adults is that incidents of bullying among adults could result to more serious harm.
Judging by the bullying facts gathered in a number of studies conducted all over the country, bullying is definitely far from being a laughing matter. According to the bullying facts and figures, bullying can cause some serious health problems for the person who is constantly being picked on by his or her peers. In many cases, a person who is bullied suffers heart palpitations that could escalate to a full blown heart attack. There have been a number of reported cases where people died of heart attack after they have been badly humiliated by their peers in public. It doesn’t matter if the person who caused the humiliation did it to make people laugh; the fact that somebody got hurt because of the bullying act is not a laughing matter at all.
How You Can Help Prevent Bullying
Studies show that bullying has such a dehumanizing effect that the person who is continuously subjected to it will soon lose his or her self-confidence. If you really care for the people around you, you have to take an active part in preventing acts of aggression against the helpless. According to the bullying facts and figures gathered by researchers all over the country, there are many simple ways to prevent bullying. For instance, at the workplace, if some of your coworkers bully the people around them, report the incident to your company’s human resource department. Always remember that one can only continue to bully somebody only if they are allowed to do so.
