Why does a child become a bully?

Bullying has been going on as long as there have been schools. There are many schools that have adopted rules against bullying, and have zero bully tolerance, because of the rash of school shootings that have been caused by bullying. Many are very strict about enforcing the rules, while some are not. The reason bullying is such a major problem is because of the problems that it leads to in later life as well as making it very hard for the students to take advantage of the education that is being offered.

Although many aspects of bullying have been looked at, one has been too often overlooked. What causes a bully to bully? There are as many different reasons and ideas as there are bullies.

There are many ideas about why a child becomes a bully. With so many people in the world and each one having a different life experience it is impossible to pinpoint the cause of bullying. There are so many forms of bullying also, that trying to find a single reason is not possible. The best that we can do is diagnose a series of reasons why a child might make a choice to become a bully.

What makes a bully?

The adage that you are what you think, is never more true than in bullying. A child has had to make a conscious decision in their life that they will act the part of a bully. Babies are not programmed to be bullies or victims of bullies at birth, they have had to learn it somewhere. Unless you believe in Karma and attribution, where we all are what we are because of what we have been or done before. Some people have gained control of their lives by past life regressions. It is possible that this could be done for bullies. It is definitely important that the bully learn the reasons why they act like they do, that their actions are no accepted behavior, and how to change.

Although there are many ways to bully and reasons for doing it, children and adults alike need to learn that it is unacceptable behavior. They need to learn why they have made a choice to be a bully so that they can find another way to interact with others. It is important for everyone to be able to put themselves in the shoes of another so that they can truly see the person they are looking at.
