Put one adult to watch 20+ energetic children on a school bus and you have a perfect place for bullies to bully. School buses, bathrooms, lunchrooms, hallways, and other unsupervised areas are places bullying can be found.
School Bus Bullying
There are a estimated 24 million children that ride school buses every day in the United States. Bullying problems on school buses are a growing problem that has experts alarmed and working for solutions. There are so many complications to the problem of bullying on school buses. Liability to the schools for the behavior of students on school buses has many school authorities worried that they could be sued. There are, also, several different schools that use the same school buses. That would mean administrations from several districts would have to work together on the bullying problem. Bus drivers are already overwhelmed with their job, some now are dealing with video cameras and are fearful of the added responsibility.
Bullies on School Buses
Children need to feel safe, on school buses and everywhere. Bullies can outwit Video Cameras. They are not the answer. What is needed is adult supervisors to ride on the school bus to monitor and document any deviant behaviors.
Far too long adults have underestimated Bullying. The damage that it causes and the frequency that it takes place have been overlooked, unfortunately. The majority of teachers agree that children who arrive at school after being bullied cannot concentrate on their academic pursuits.
Bully prevention needs to be done with everyone involved. Community Leaders, teachers, parents all need to learn about bullying, and how to deal with it. Bullying education is important to combat the bullying problem. Some solutions that have been tried are awards for best drivers, posters against bullying, bullying polls, and other educational means that teach effective ways to identify and end bullying.
