Bullying * Bulling In The Workplace
Bullying and the workplace By Sandy Joner
Bullying comes in many types, on the job and off. Workplace bullying by a superior is the hardest to recognize because they can cover it up by saying they are just trying to help you become a better worker. Recognizing the signs of bullying is important in order to fight it.
Does your boss or co-worker constantly criticize you, or give you tasks that are impossible to complete?
Are they always telling you that what your doing is wrong?
Do they ever compliment you on a job well done?
Constant negative feedback not only destroys your self-confidence, it can also destroy your future. The self-righteous know it all bully is one of the worst bullies you can have in the workplace. They are always right and you are always wrong. They feel it is their place to put everyone else in their place.
If you have encountered a workplace bully it is very important that you do something about it. Bullying should never be tolerated; everyone deserves to be treated with respect. If you see someone else being bullied you should speak up, let them know that they too have rights. No one wants to be a tell tale or a snitch, but bullying has such a devastating impact on those who are victims. It is imperative that a zero tolerance of bullying of every kind in the workplace should be the policy of everyone.
Types of workplace bullies
Workplace bullies who are managers or supervisors cause a lot of problems for their workers and need to be taught better ways to interact with others. Building themselves up by tearing others down is not conducive to a happy workplace, and should never be tolerated. The health and well being of everyone is important on any job. The person who brings bullying to the workplace needs to be shown how to be better at their job and how to make others feel good about themselves and the job they are doing. Absenteeism, poor health, depression, sleeplessness and constant stress are indicators of poor work conditions. A zero tolerance policy against bullying of any kind in the workplace is a must for all businesses.
