Bullying * School Shootings
Bullying, and suicide prevention By Sandy Jones
Bullying is the cause of many problems that are often overlooked as signs by both parents and teachers. Depression and health problems are just a couple of the signs that something is not right. Too often a child's problems with bullying are thought to be inconsequential or just something that everyone goes through. Some parents want their children to be tough and think that they need to face the situations they find themselves in so that they can learn to cope with the real world. This most certainly is not true. Bullying is dangerous and very important in the lives of our children and their peers. Everyone needs to be on the lookout for bully behavior or bullying consequences, this is so important that it needs to be addressed by everyone in every community, with a zero tolerance for bullying.
Suicide in School - The Issue Of Suicide In School Due To Bullying
Bullying in our schools has become more than just a annoyance, it has become the reason for school shootings as well as other retaliations against bullying. The pecking order plays out in our schools as it does in many other aspects of daily life and some kids find themselves on the bottom strata and cannot ever get above it without some intervention. Besides losing their self-esteem, they can suffer mental anguish that is unbearable to some. Medical problems can result and many who have been bullied take drugs and use alcohol as a means of escape.
What is so bad about bullying
There are characteristics to look for in our children and the children of others so that we can recognize the bully or the bullied like; Cruelty toward animals, fierce tempers, foul language, threatening language, walks on the dark side of life, fascination with violent movies, violent rap songs, or violent poems, comes from a violent family background, has been abused, doesn't have any friends, or hangs out with gang bangers, uses drugs or alcohol, has little or no supervision from their parents, is a known trouble maker, doesn't admit to wrong doings, is fascinated with weapons. These are things to look for according to the most recent studies done about school shootings. If you see some or many of these characteristics in someone or your own child, you need to get them some help, in a good way. By saying in a good way, I mean that these children are not lost causes and there has to be a way to deal with them without putting them into the justice system. Vocational schooling, community services, a mentor who can teach them the right value system if available, a job, a hobby, something, or some way to reach them before they make a choice they can never recover from.
