Living in a society where the Media leads our thinking, whether it is what to drink, what to eat, or what to look like. The "thin look' has been the look that most woman want and find 'sexy'. Many bullies find fat people an easy target. Their self-esteem is already low because of their weight. Eating disorders are often the result of bullying and result in many problems that take years to overcome if ever. It has been observed that youngsters as young as 7 have fallen victim to eating disorders and it doesn't stop with the elderly either. The consequences of trying to look sexy are a range of medical problems that include loneliness and desperation.

Realities of eating disorders

If you think there is something wrong with your child, its time to do something, do not hesitate. Eating disorders are harmful and in many cases people have actually starved themselves to death by not getting the proper nutrition in their bodies. Some will refuse to eat while others will purge themselves after binging on food. There are many different eating disorders to watch out for. Bullying by classmates and peers makes the situation worse every ounce of food that they eat they lose through excessive exercising. According to experts, anorexia nervosa is caused by the distorted imagine that a person has over his or her body. In most cases, peer pressure such as girls bullying each other about their weight just aggravates the situation. Anorexia can be fatal. Physical effects include rapid or extreme weight loss, stomach pain, dizzy spells, constipation, fainting, hair on the upper lip or body, lank or loss of hair on the head, poor circulation, feeling cold constantly, dry or discolored skin irregular or loss of menstrual cycles. Loss of libido, osteoporosis, heart problems, organ failure, stunted growth, delayed puberty, fertility problems and that's just a few of the problems. Bulimia Nervosa is as bad with physical side effects that include; weight fluctuations, sores on knuckles, bad breath, swollen cheeks, tooth decay, bad skin, irregular menstrual periods, liver and kidney problems, tiredness, chest pain, stomach pain, mouth sores, body hair, lank hair, sore nails and cuticles, epileptic fits, anxiety, depression, dehydration, water retention, heart attacks, rectal bleeding, bowel tumors, infections and more.

f you are someone who is being bullied because you are overweight, have courage and learn to cope with the situation without harming yourself by obsessive dieting. There are scales that show the proper weight for each height. If you are overweight you can do damage by 'starving yourself' that will have affects on you the rest of your life. Your body needs certain nutrients just to perform regular functions. A balanced diet and exercise is the best things you can do for yourself to be healthy. Being healthy is better than looking sexy both emotional and physically. It takes courage to be yourself and not listen to bullies, it takes a smart person to know what to do for their own health and then do it. If you are a parent or a friend of someone who you suspect is a victim of an eating disorder there are things you can do to help. The first is to get the information to the victim about eating disorders and the long lasting effects. If it has gotten to a serious point a doctor needs be consulted to find the correct nutrient levels that need to be restored. Love and compassion sprinkled with educational booklets or the many other information sources will help your child or friend learn how to overcome the problems.
