Bullies in the Bible

Bullying started with Cain. Why did Cain kill his brother ? Is bullying inherited ? What causes bullying? What can be done about bullying ? This article will attempt to address these questions.

There are many theories about why Cain murdered his brother. Jealousy, Rage, or was it a accident ? Cain had never seen a dead human before, but he had seen animals die. Did he know that striking his brother would lead to his death ? Was he horrified when he realized that Isaac was dead ? We can only speculate on these questions. What we do know is that Cain was punished by God for his act of violence. Is it possible that his very DNA was changed at that moment to include bullying ?

Cain was set apart from others with a mark. He would be hunted and God wanted to protect him. What was the mark that was put upon Cain? One theory is that the mark was not a mark at all, but a dog to accompany him in his travels. I believe that the violent act of Cain toward his brother has followed through the ages into our DNA. I believe that violence and bullying is in everyone of us. The only thing keeping some from being bullies is knowing that it is wrong. If God had not set the stage by punishing Cain would we know that bullying is not acceptable?

In some religions bullying your wife is condoned. Even in Christianity wife bullying has been largely looked upon as part of a husbands right. Islam is a bullying religion in many ways. To say that if you do not switch to Islam then you will be killed is nothing more than bullying taken to a new level.

Dictators for the most part are bullies with power. When put together with a religious authority that gives rights to the bully dire consequences for mankind have been felt. Hitler was a bully on a grand scale, but unfortunately he was not the first or the last bully on the world stage.

Putting a end to bullying should be a worldwide concern. It starts early in the life of a bully and has a lot to do with the way the bully is brought up, although that is not the only reason that one becomes a bully while another does not. If bullying is the only way that a person can get what they want, or if that person has been brought up to believe that bullying is justified-aka-'the means justify the ends' then that person will be a bully without the slightest knowledge that their bullying is wrong. Some do not even realize that bullying hurts others.

Just as reading, writing, and arithmetic are taught in schools so must anti bullying be taught. It must be taught from the cradle to the grave if necessary that bullying is not acceptable behavior. Our competition oriented society actually has condoned bullying for too long in the way that might makes right. There are too many bullies in law enforcement, in prosecution, and sitting in the judges seats. Those with a the bullying attitude seek out places of power so that they can lord it over those who fall within their grasp.

If you are a bully you need to change the way you deal with others. If you have a child who is a bully it is important that you do not neglect to teach them that bullying is wrong. Teachers are very important in the fight against bullying, they need to have the tools to help them teach ways to overcome being a bully, or being a victim of a bully.

Peer pressure is a important tool that can be used to combat bullying in the schools, workplaces, or in the home. Media can be used in a beneficial way to point out that being a bully is not a good thing. Too many movies actually teach the opposite. That and religions that have too long turned away from the real Christian character of Christ. The forgiving nature instead of the the vindictive nature of the modern day heroes that are held up for our children to follow and look up to.

"The only real freedom that any of us really have is the freedom to choose what kind of person we will be, each moment of each day we each have that choice." It just needs to be more publicized that bullying is not the right choice.
